WALTER SADOWSKI

1929 - 2021

Walter Louis Sadowski  December 30, 1929 - October 28, 2021  
Passed away on October 28, 2021 from pulmonary aspiration at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD, where he received excellent care. A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Walter and his family were displaced by World War II and arrived in the U.S. in 1948. Walter graduated from Utica College and received a PhD from Syracuse University, NY. A brilliant physicist, he served the Federal Government for over 40 years, first with the National Bureau of Standards, then with the Energy Research & Development Administration, and Department of Energy as a member of the Fusion Energy Sciences Program working on plasma theory and computational plasma science. He was awarded The Distinguished Career Service Award upon retirement. Walter's professional engagement with plasma physicists attracted many new members to the U.S. plasma fusion community which helped boost this important research topic focused on providing inexhaustible energy resources for the country.  He will be remembered as an enthusiastic, engaging, generous, and very friendly person.He is survived by his wife Doloress Zaslavsky, three children Tamara, Gorka, Andre Sadowski, and four grandchildren. An Orthodox funeral was held at St. Vladimir's Cemetery in Jackson, NJ, and he was interred next to his father.
