Deacon John Edward Sadowski, a cherished resident of Chase City, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in New Jersey on December 27, 1939, John lived a life exemplifying dedication to family, service, and faith.
A man committed to protecting and serving his community, John devoted 30 years of his life to the Ocean County Sheriff's Department in Toms River, New Jersey, retiring from his career as the Chief of the Sheriff's Department. His dedication to law enforcement was further developed during his education at the prestigious FBI Academy. Before embarking on his career in law enforcement, John proudly served his country in the Navy for four years, a period that instilled in him a profound sense of duty and honor.
John was deeply involved in his community beyond his professional life. He was passionate about prison ministry, finding it an essential part of his spiritual journey and community service as a Deacon.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara Sanko Sadowski, and his cherished daughters: Sharon Lee Sadowski, Donna Marie Seate, Valerie Jean Sadowski, Barbara Mary Sadowski, Judith Suzanne Sadowski, Kathleen Noel Thomason (Mark), Deborah Joy Langdon (Roy), Cheryl Ann Sadowski, and Marion Rose Noll (Bill); and John's greatest treasure, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Arnold Sadowski. John's legacy is the loving family he raised and nurtured, and they will continue to honor his memory and contributions to their lives.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Sadowski.
A visitation will be held at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville, VA, on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, also in Clarksville, VA, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the services, John will be laid to rest at Oakhurst Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that those wishing to send memorials please consider a donation to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
The family extends their gratitude to the community for the outpouring of support and love. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
Deacon John Edward Sadowski will be remembered for his steadfast commitment to service, his faith, and, most importantly, his cherished family, who will carry his love and values forward.
