William Lanham Obituary

October 25, 1936 - February 12, 2025
Navy Veteran, 33rd Degree Mason, Past Potentate. Almas Temple Washington, DC. A Lineman for the C.&P. Phone Co. his office for 37 years was on the streets of Washington, DC. The office didn't close because of the weather, the job got done. He met "The One" (Nancy Crawford) at Blair High School in 1954. They said I do and they did for 68 years. Whenever apart they were together at heart. They traveled far and wide with dear and longtime friends. They were there for the joys and tears of their ever growing family as long as time and chance would allow. He and Nancy raised three sons, Skip (Janet Mathis), Scott (the late Jill Thompson), and Stephen (Carolyn Carney), each son an Eagle Scout, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren so far. His life was lived as an example for all of kindness and love for all of them. His service to others was a gift to us all. A neighbor in need wasn't for long. He was there to help establish the Wheaton Boys Club and Coached Football for 15 years. Won some and lost some but he loved them all. A Scout Leader for 20 plus. He helped make a difference in young men's lives, then and now. His work with the Shriners Hospital helped give hundreds of children and their families hope and comfort. Ya did good Dad. He was a Dashboard Drummer, he gave traveling art lessons "the light doesn't get any greener", he gave us small chores that grew and grew because it's the little things that begin and finish the big things you will do, he gave us a gift in loving the ocean and all it's mysteries. He gave us everything he could. I wish you Peace Dad. Service April 12 at 11 a.m. at Grace UMC, 119 N. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg, MD; casual dress.
