Jerry Ullmer Obituary

Jerry Ullmer

Wausau - On May 13, 2018 a member of the Wausau community passed away at Aspiris Hospital.

Jerry Ullmer is someone that if you didn't know him personally you know someone who does. This man was part of the community for 85 years and has touched many lives during his time. He was known by many names Sonny, Ol' Jer, Garcon, Chip and Jerry to me us was simply dad.

Born at the old Wausau Hospital North to Norbert and Margaret Ullmer and raised in Nuttervill where his father owned and operated the local tavern, know at that time as the Stagecoach Stop. Jerry graduated from Wausau High and then joined the Navy as a member of the CeeBees and spent his service working on the bases in the Philippines. He moved around some in his younger days but eventually came home to Wausau.

You may know him as your coach if you played basketball for St Michaels in the '80 or early '90s. He may have been your umpire if you took part in Little League during the 1990s. or you may know him from his favorite hobby, socializing.

He spent a good deal of his professional life in sales, everything from auto parts to cash registers. But the tavern business was in his blood and he spent a lot of time on both sides of the pine. The last tavern his father owned was Norbie's Tavern now known as the Cop Shop. Besides serving libations in that establishment he tended in many others, The Cloister, The Downtown Lounge, Mountain Lanes, Paul & Plautz, Bob and Randy's', Loppnows are a few I know of for sure. If he wasn't across from you he very well might have sat next to you and shared a kind word, a joke or his ridiculous sports trivia knowledge. He always had a kind word for everyone and was well liked by many.

He has battled failing health for the last four years and at about 4:00 am Sunday morning he died as he lived, on his terms. He told the nurses and Dr that he was tired and ready to rest, took off his oxygen and slipped quietly into the last sleep.

Jerry wished to be cremated so there will not be visitations.

He is survived by 2 sisters Mary Bube WI. Connie Johnson Wi. 2 sons Joey Ullmer CA. Daniel (Stacey) Ullmer IN. 4 daughters Margaret (Jorge) Ramirez WI. Jan Ullmer CA. Jeanne Ullmer CA.
