Paul Theodore Litterer, 87, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away Friday night, October 11, 2024, at the Waverly Health Center.
Paul was born on November 15,1936, in Butler County Iowa, the son of Elsie (Witt) and Theophil Benjamin Litterer. He was baptized and confirmed Pleasant Hill Church, Nashua. Paul attended Butler County country schools and then Clarksville High School, graduating in 1955. While in high school, he proudly lettered in baseball. Paul served in the United States Army from September 3, 1959 until his honorable discharge on August 25, 1961. On October 22, 1977, Paul was united in marriage to Mary Kay Seversen. Paul worked in the maintenance department at Carnation and retired after 36 years of service.
Paul regularly attended Grace Baptist Church. Earlier in life, he enjoyed reading western books, playing softball, golf and bowling. In 2015, he received the Hall Fame Award from the Waverly Bowling Association. He also liked woodworking, gardening and attending sporting events including the Waverly-Shell Rock Go Hawks, Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes. Together, Paul and Mary enjoyed trout fishing and playing cards. However, their favorite times were spent with family, especially their grandchildren.
Paul is survived by is wife of nearly 47 years, Mary; his children, Rev Kimberlee Law of New Castle, CO, Daniel (Kelly) Rustad of Waverly, IA and Christopher (Deb) Rustad of Tripoli; six grandchildren, Jessica (Will), Melissa (Wyatt), Kyle (Gabrielle), Grant, Amanda (Thomas) and Bailey; two sisters, Margaret (Carl) Horengic of Upper Marlboro, MD and Shirley (David) Rottink of Clarksville; five sisters-in-law, Ardys, Sherry, Marjorie, Ida, and Peggy; a brother-in-law, Ken (Andrea) Seversen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Ralph, Arnold (Yvonne), Lawrence (Annetta), Robert, Wilbur, Richard and Roger; and two sisters, Ruth (Lyle) Fisher and Hulda (Mark) Fisher.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church in Waverly with Pastor Jim Lee presiding. Burial will follow in Harlington Cemetery with military rites provided by Waverly Area Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
