Thomas Richard "Tom" Stevens

1955 - 2016

Thomas "Tom" Richard Stevens, 61, of Denver, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Denver.
Tom was born July 26, 1955, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Robert "Bob" and Mary E. (Eckey) Stevens. He attended Winfield Mt. Union High School and graduated with the class of 1973. On Aug. 3, 1973, he was united in marriage to Mary H. Panko in Mt. Pleasant. Upon graduating from the University of Northern Iowa in 1977 with a B.A. in mathematics, he began his teaching career at St. John's Catholic School in Waterloo. In 1979, he began teaching at the Denver High School. He would go on to earn his M.A. in computer science from the University of Northern Iowa in 1988, and continued to teach at Denver until his retirement in 2010.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Stevens, of Denver; three sons, Nicholas R. (Ashley) Stevens, of Farmington, Minn., Benjamin W. (Bethany) Stevens, of Jesup, and David M. (Heather) Stevens, of Ionia; his father, Robert (Bob) Stevens, of Winfield; nine grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth (Donald "Don") Briggs, of Winfield; three brothers, Robert "David" (Karen) Stevens, of New London, Paul (Shelia) Stevens, of Pace, Fla., and Mark (Dawn) Stevens, of New Market, Ala. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary E. Stevens.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials in Tom's name may be directed to the Denver Public Library or St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver. Online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
