PEGGY CANNON Obituary

PEGGY JANE PUTMAN CANNON On April 16, 2024, Peggy Jane Putman Cannon of Midlothian, Texas went to be with her Lord & Savior. Born on January 15, 1945, in Blooming Grove, Texas to Cecil and Virgie Rene Putman (née Raley), Peggy was the youngest of their two children. Growing up in Frost, Texas, Peggy played basketball in school and played in the school band. A proud Frost Polar Bear, Peggy maintained lifelong friendships with several members of her graduating class. Soon after graduation, Peggy married J R Cannon of Italy, Texas on August 23, 1963, in Frost, Texas. She and J R would later have two sons: Michael Jay Cannon (of Midlothian, Texas) and Jason Bradley Cannon (of Houston, Texas). After moving around Texas for a few years, the couple soon settled their family in De Soto, Texas in 1978. Peggy worked as an executive secretary for several defense contractors and government agencies during her working career. However, she found the most joy in raising a family, being an amazing wife, mother, sister and daughter and perhaps most importantly, being a steadfast follower of Christ. Peggy's capacity for faith set her apart from most people (although she would dispute this). Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of her faith was how it manifested in her actions. During the construction of her church home during the 1980s, Peggy and her family hosted church services in their living room. Later, Peggy would be a staunch ally of Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to those in need for over a decade. And she was a fixture in Sunday services, Sunday school, and various bible studies over the years. She loved to share the word of God with others. Peggy was passionate about genealogy. She left no stone unturned in her quest to document her family's lineage. From spending hours on the phone talking to like-minded individuals to scouring the countryside visiting old gravestones and pouring over dusty documents, the woman enjoyed learning about her past. Peggy Cannon is survived by her two sons, Michael Jay Cannon (wife Starla) and Jason Bradley Cannon (wife Jennifer), four granddaughters, Haley Oxford (husband Tyler), Hanna Cannon, Hope Cannon and Hollie Cannon, all of the Midlothian area, and one great-granddaughter Ava Oxford. Peggy was preceded in death by husband J R Cannon, her parents Cecil and Virgie Rene Putnam, and her sister Patsy Carolyn Mahone. The family has asked for donations to the Samaritan's Purse. https://www.samaritanspurse.org/memorial-page/peggy-jane-putnam-cannon-waxahachie-tx/
