Bryan Knecht Obituary

Bryan Knecht

May 25, 1974 - October 3, 2024

Bryan Knecht passed away unexpectedly on October 3rd, 2024 at University of Iowa Hospitals.

Bryan was born in Grundy Center, Iowa on May 25th, 1974 to Dave and Linda Knecht. Bryan graduated from Gilbert High School in 1992. After High School Bryan attended the University of Northern Iowa where he played on the UNI men's golf team and obtained his Masters of Business Administration degree.

While in undergrad and graduate school, Bryan worked as a bartender and manager of some popular local establishments. It was during this time that he established numerous lifelong friendships that ultimately led to his decision to eventually make his home in Cedar Falls.

After college Bryan worked for a few years at Iowa State University in Ames and at Frontier Herb in Norway Iowa. In 2002 Bryan accepted the position of Manager of Information Technology at the Area Education Agency. Bryan had a passion for technology in education and was always focused on making sound decisions that put students first. During this time, he also taught several IT and Business classes for most of the area colleges around Cedar Falls. After 23 years at the Agency, Bryan decided to start a new chapter in his life and started his own IT company.

Bryan was very talented and had many hobbies in life that he often referred to as the three G's (Golf, Guitars & Guns). Bryan was a well-respected golfer in the local community. He recently went on what he described as "the trip of a lifetime!" with friends to play at Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill in California. His love of music made him an avid guitar collector and player who was always in search of just the right sound. He was also an excellent marksman who enjoyed target practicing and competition shooting when time provided.

During the last years of his life Bryan enjoyed spending time with his father Dave. They spent as much time as they could together working on various projects and doing cleanup work on Bryan's new property. Hardly a week went by where they didn't spend time together and for this Bryan was truly grateful.

Bryan is survived by his father Dave Knecht of Ames, Iowa. Bryan was preceded in death by his mother Linda Knecht.

A Celebration of Life event will be announced and held at a later date.

Bryan was my nephew; his father Dave is my brother. Although I never spent much time with Bryan, through the family chat line, I always had an idea of what he was up to, his accomplishments and passions - golf being number one for years. He will be missed by the family; we share in Dave's sorrow. Forever in our hearts, aunt Elizabeth

You will be forever missed. I lost touch with Bryan over the years but he will always hold a place in my heart.
We were inseparable in high school and had such good times.
Dave and Linda were like second parents to me.
I regret not staying in touch with Bryan and this is a good reminder to reach out to loved ones and let them know you care.
Dave, if you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out to me. You were an awesome father. May you find peace in this troubling time.

My condolences, Dave. I can't imagine the sadness...... It's great that you were able to spend so much time with him in the recent years.. that has to be gratifying.... and so many good memories to relish. Take care of yourself now.

We shared some good times in high school! Thinking of all the shenanigans and other assorted memories that pop into my head at the hard time brings a laugh to my broken heart. You will be missed Bryan! till we meet again!

I am so very sorry to hear this. Bryan and I worked closely on many issues at the AEA. He helped me tremendously! He was as a very knowledgable person who went the extra mile to make sure our technology was up to date and secure. Godspeed Bryan. You will be missed!
