Clarissa Kunz Obituary
September 17, 1955 - August 8, 2025
Clarissa Kunz, 69, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Aug. 8, 2025, after a brief illness.
Clarissa was born Sept. 17, 1955, in Beckley, WV, daughter of David and Mary Barker. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1973. She married Tom Kunz at St. Edward Church in Waterloo on Aug. 11, 1978.
Clarissa graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1983 with a BA in Anthropology. She worked at the UNI museum for several years. She was a Certified Master Gardener who loved the outdoors. She volunteered for numerous organizations including Green Scene and her children's schools. She was a great lover of animals, especially her precious dogs. She was also a devout fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Clarissa is survived by her husband of Waterloo; her son, Andrew, of Mexico City; her daughter, Jenna (Billy) Bracken, of Kansas City, Mo.; her sister, Jennifer (William) Dippel and their son, Parker, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and her brother, Doug Barker, of Phoenix, Ariz. She is also survived by her beloved grandsons, Connor and Harrison Bracken; many nieces and nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Barker.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, at Locke at Tower Park with inurnment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Locke at Tower Park; vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed, in Clarissa's name, to a charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com. Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, is assisting the family. Locke at Tower Park, 319-233-3146.
