Constance Joanne (Ellingson) Byrnes, age 79, of Cedar Falls, IA, formerly of Council Bluffs, IA, passed away October 2, 2025.

Constance was born in New Hampton, IA, on July 20, 1946, the daughter of Irwin and Vivian (Merritt) Ellingson. She was raised in Waterloo and graduated from West High School in 1964. She obtained a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Math Teaching from the University of Northern Iowa. Connie married David Byrnes on August 12, 1967, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Dave was in the Army, and they lived in Germany for two years where he was stationed. Upon his discharge, they moved to Council Bluffs where Dave had employment. Connie was a Math Teacher for the Council Bluffs School System for 33 years. Dave died in 2007. Connie was a dog lover and had nine shelties and a poodle during her lifetime. She belonged to a dog club in Council Bluffs and enjoyed training her dogs and going to dog shows. She was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. Connie was a resident of Council Bluffs for over 50 years. In 2022 Connie wasn't able to live by herself any longer. She moved to Cedar Falls to be near her sister and brother. Connie lived at Bickford Assisted Living. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Connie is survived by her brother, Dave Ellingson of Webster City, IA; sister, Florine "Lori" Rule of Waterloo; niece, Julie (Kiah) Rule-Ong of Lombard, IL; 4 nephews, Brad Rule of Waterloo, Andy (Angie) Ellingson of Bettendorf, IA, Pete (Liz) Ellingson of Centennial, CO, Ben (Alicia) Ellingson of Libertyville, IL; 6 great-nephews; 3 great-nieces; and cousin, Dennis (Susan) Johnson of Marion, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her in-laws, Lawrence and Harriet Byrnes.

Funeral service, Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Saint John Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. A lunch will immediately follow at the church. Visitation with the family, will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Interment Friday, 11:00 a.m. in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, IA.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls or the Alzheimer's Association.
