Donald Edwin Albrecht
December 7, 1936 - December 9, 2025
Donald Edwin Albrecht, 89, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Don was born on December 7, 1936, on the family farm, the son of Edwin William and Ella (Roloff) Albrecht. He attended country school and graduated from Waverly High School in 1954. He was the FFA Star Farmer in 1954. After high school he served in the Navy Reserves from 1954-1962.
Don was a lifelong farmer and worked alongside his father until he started farming on his own. Don was united in marriage to Fannie Franken on August 5, 1956, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Clarksville. Together the couple had dairy cattle, raised hogs, and crop farmed. Don also hauled sugar beets for Kelley Canning and did custom work for farmers in the area. He worked long days, but always made sure to spend time with kids, even if it was a quick sled ride around the farm.
He enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, participating in farm tractor pulls, and later attending tractor pulls. Don and Fannie especially loved their time spent with their snowbird friends while wintering in Florida.
Don is survived by his wife of 69 years, Fannie Albrecht; a son, Dan (Tracy) Albrecht of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Cindi Zelle of Hudson; a son, David (Jess) Albrecht of Shell Rock; his grandchildren, James (Angie) Albrecht, Bryan (Angela) Albrecht, Stacy (Josh Bohlen) Albrecht, Lindsay (Joshua) McClung, Amanda (Brad) Dixon, Shelby (Mathias) Palmersheim, Emily (Brad) Billman, Amy (Ryan) Rieck, Robin (Phil) Bayles Paquin, Aubrie Woltz, and Grace Woltz; his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Shaylynn, Michael, Makylie, Austin, Zane, Lennox, Addison, Alex, August, Ethan, Carter, Kayci, Nora and Harper; a sister, Shirley (Dave) Ritter; a sister, Sheryl Greiner; a sister, Joyce (Paul) Schafbuch; and a sister, Julie (Jim) Grosser.
