JoAnn Miller Obituary

JoAnn Miller

May 16, 1936 - May 8, 2025

JoAnn Miller, 88, of Janesville, left us peacefully on the evening of May 8, 2025, surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born, and raised in Waterloo, on May 16, 1936, daughter of Harold and Francis Powers Walden. JoAnn attended Whittier, St. Edward, and Waterloo West High Schools. JoAnn went on to attend Clarke University and University of Iowa where she became a Dental Hygienist. She worked for Drs. Shaw, Hemmingway, Steele, and Anderson, and for 30+ years at Allen Women's Health Center.

JoAnn and Otto married at St. Edward Catholic Church on April 4, 1959, and were married for 66 wonderful years. In 1970, they moved to Janesville to build their dream home in "God's Country." It is where they raised their family, adopted a community, and still live today.

She was the Irish heart and soul of the Miller family. A woman known for her independence, strength, love, and generosity. JoAnn's home was always open, a beacon of laughter with love, music, food and drink. She nurtured not only her own family but also countless friends, animals, and visitors, making her home a haven for all who entered. JoAnn was a keeper of family traditions, always ensuring that holidays and gatherings were filled with that laughter, love, happiness, and support.

Although gone from this life, her love, laughter, and lessons she imparted on her family and community will live on forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Hugo and Ida Miller; brothers, Robert "Bob" and Richard "Dick" Walden; brothers-in-law, Vernon Miller and Ted Schuler; sisters-law, Jane Walden, Helen Schuler, and Nikki Miller; and nephews, Richard "Dick" Walden and Thomas "Tom" Miller.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Otto; son, Dan (Robyn) Miller, and their son, Benjamin "Ben;" daughters, Rose Miller, and Mary Miller, and her children, Samantha "Sammie" Felts and Mathew "Matt" Felts; brother-in-law, Walter "Walt" Miller; sister-in-law, Anne Walden; nephews, Michael "Mike" (Michelle) Walden, David (Carey) Walden, Michael "Mike" (Norma) Miller, Richard "Rick" Miller, Lee Schuler, and RJ Miller; nieces, Sue (Rick) Jorgensen, Kathy (Mark) Schreiner, Michelle (Gary) Milam, and Janice (David) Chung; and too many cousins and sincere friends to name, who will cherish the memories, love, laughter, and wisdom.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Friday, May 16, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation: 4:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice and Cara official "Friends of Iowa Irish Fest."
