Linda Jernigan Obituary
April 8, 1943 - April 11, 2025
Linda Louise (Dorough) Jernigan, age 82, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, April 11, 2025, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.
She was born April 8, 1943, in Tyler, Texas, the daughter of Paul and Helen (Harris) Dorough. Linda graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler. She then attended North Texas St University and graduated in 1965 with a BA in French, along with a Texas state teaching certificate. She married Malcolm Lathon Jernigan on July 24, 1965, at Marvin Methodist Church in Tyler, TX. She taught French and English at Garland HS in Garland, TX, and San Marcos HS in San Marcos, TX. Her husband Lathon was a music professor and was hired to teach music at the University of Northern Iowa, which brought them to Iowa in the early 1970's. She later earned a master's degree in College Student Personnel Services from UNI. In 1982 she began a 30+ year career in working with the admission of international students attending the University of Northern Iowa. She loved her job because she was able to facilitate the intricate admission process from these students and because it provided her the chance to meet people from all over the world.
Linda had a great love for her husband, two daughters, and their children. She truly loved bringing a wide variety of pets into the family for all to enjoy, especially the love of horses and the joy of horseback riding.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Banks of Fort Worth, TX, and Lesley (Dave Hatcher) Jernigan of Cedar Falls; two grandsons, Donavon (Sein) Banks of Fort Worth, TX, and Sawyer Howe of Cedar Falls; and a sister, Paula (David) Dorough-Kahler of Dallas, TX.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Malcolm Lathon Jernigan.
A gathering of friends and family with be held from 4 to 6 p.m., on May 1, 2025, at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls. Inurnment will be at a later date in Goldthwaite, TX.
