Mildred Mary Rader

April 14, 1936 - September 27, 2023

Mildred "Milly" Rader, 87, of Sumner, died Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, rural Sumner. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Monday, October 2nd at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Tuesday. A Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Monday starting at 3:45 PM. Memorials may be made in Milly's name to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. If you are wanting to send a floral arrangement, we please ask you to refrain from sending lilies, as there are some family members with allergies. Mildred Mary, daughter of Albert and Catherine (Schmitz) Reiter was born April 14, 1936, in Waterloo. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel in Eagle Center. Milly received her education in the St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Schools in Eagle Center. Following graduation from high school, she continued her education at Mount Mercy, earning her Teaching Certificate. Milly taught as a Kindergarten teacher in Blairstown prior to teaching, rural Sumner for a few years. She was united in marriage to Verlynn Rader on August 6, 1956, at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel. To this union six children were born, Sandra, David, Patrice, Mary Ann, Dale, and Kathy. The couple farmed rural Sumner for many years. Verlynn died tragically in 1981. Milly continued to live on the family's farm for many years until moving to Sumner. She worked at the Sewing Machine Clinic in Elk Run Heights for several years prior to working at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner for many years, retiring in 2001. Milly was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner where she was on the Women's Guild and a local sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed sewing, bowling (was in a bowling league), quilting, and traveling to her grandkids activities.

Milly is survived by her children, Sandy (Jeff) Powell of Gaithersburg, Maryland, David (Brenda) Rader of Sumner, Patrice (Dan) Johnson of Albia, Dale Rader of Greene, and Kathy Holtz of Toledo; twelve grandchildren, Taylor and Hunter Powell, Holly (Trey) Myers, Kristen (Eric) Staker, Matthew (Stacey) Johnson, Katie (Brandon) Blanchard, Tabatha (David) Noss, Anne (Andrew) Ries, Dustin Rader, Sarah (Dustin) Young, Samantha Mildred (Dave) Cantonwine, and Sabrina (Daniel) Kass; eleven great-grandchildren with two on the way; and three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Pauline Rader of Tripoli, Corrine Meyer of Sumner and Flora and Ronald Hogue of Chesterfield, Missouri.

In addition to her parents and husband, Verlynn, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ann; grandson, Dennis Johnson; parents-in-law, Florence and Edmund Rader; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald Rader, Milton "Shorty" Meyer, and Mary Kay Winter.
