Bernard Fitzsimmons Obituary

Watertown, WI - With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our dad, Bernie Fitzsimmons, who by faith and grace alone received his perfect crown of eternal life from his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on February 20, 2025, at the age of 72.

Bernard Joseph Fitzsimmons was born on May 31, 1952, in Hartford, WI, to Hubert and Bernice (nee Shilts) Fitzsimmons.

On June 15, 1952, Bernie was baptized at St. John's Catholic Church in Rubicon, and later in life was confirmed in the Christian faith at Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford on April 26, 1992.

Bernie graduated from Hustisford High School in 1970, where he enjoyed playing on the basketball and baseball teams as well as being honored as prom king.

Following graduation, Bernie faithfully served his country for a year and a half before being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in February 1972.

He worked for many years in the construction industry, LOVING his work alongside his brothers, Tom and Tim, as well as other crew members, building many municipal buildings throughout Wisconsin (and Michigan too). He also worked on the maintenance crew of Northwestern College and Luther Preparatory School in Watertown from 1995-2002.

On April 25, 1975, Bernie married Cindy (nee Steuck), and together they were blessed by Jesus with two children, Sadie Jo and Seth, whom they raised with love, joy, and dedication.

Healing through the incredible power of the Easter gospel are Cindy Fitzsimmons (of Watertown); children, Sadie Jo Vasold (and Steve, of Watertown); Seth Fitzsimmons (and Carrie, of Muskego); grandchildren, Marcus, Molly, Hannah, and Caleb Fitzsimmons, and Ben, Lydia, Madeline, Eli, and Noah Vasold; siblings, Bob Fitzsimmons (of Van Dyne); Donny Fitzsimmons (of Beaver Dam); Bonnie Hoffmann (of Montello); Tom Fitzsimmons (and Debbie, of Milwaukee); Donna Unertl (and Steve, of Morehead, NC); Tim Fitzsimmons (and Denise, of Hustisford); Terry Fitzsimmons (of Oconomowoc); Rick Fitzsimmons (and Tracy, of Burlington); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Judy; father, Hubert; brother, Randy; and mother, Bernice. As well as his sister-in-law, Wendy Fitzsimmons, and brother-in-law, Tony Hoffmann.

Bernie's life was one of kindness, humility, laughter, and dedication to his work and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but we take comfort knowing his soul now lives in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ. Until we see you again, Dad, through the power of the gospel...We love you.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 19 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI. More details to follow.
