Dixie D Vickery
October 5, 2024
Dixie D. (Erskine) Vickery passed away peacefully at East Wenatchee Senior Living on October 5th at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by Robert "Bob" Vickery, her loving husband of 60 years; her parents, J.D. and Effie Erskine; her step-father, Raleigh Craft; her brothers and sisters, Stanley Erskine, Juanita Warren, J.D. Miller Erskine, Jack Erskine, Don Erskine, Evelyn Kinzebach, Paul Erskine, Garr Erskine, LeJoy Gere, and Darrel Erskine; her loving and devoted grandson, Ian Gaukroger; and many other relatives and good friends including her dear friend, Gloria Martin.
She was active in the Monitor United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Dixie operated her day-care center in her home in Sunnyslope for more than 35 years and touched the lives of many families and children in the Wenatchee valley. She made her home in Sunnyslope for 71 years. She was active in the Wenatchee Youth Circus for several years as a chaperone and costume maker. She always looked forward to her time as a volunteer helping build the beautiful Sunnyslope community floats that were entered in the Apple Blossom festival parades years ago. She enjoyed listening to music, reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards where she would often change the rules just slightly, tending to her flower gardens, working on puzzles, watching Mariners baseball, Wenatchee Wild hockey, and Kraken hockey games, and was very fond of her dogs and cats. She was proud of her cooking skills especially when it came to chicken and dumplings and liver and onions. She always looked forward to the family gatherings in her home when she had a chance to prepare other comfort food. She loved canning fruits and vegetables from her garden and was particularly proud of her dried apricots each year.
She is survived by her children, Robert Vickery, Charles Vickery (Cindy), Laura Gaukroger-Holland, and Cindy Flowers; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
