Floyd Copeland Obituary

Floyd Foster Copeland
December 30, 1933 - September 10, 2025
Floyd Foster Copeland of Wenatchee, Washington passed away peacefully at his home on September 10, 2025. Floyd, one of nine siblings, was born to a farming family in 1933 near Jumbo, Arkansas. In the early 1940's his family joined the large migration of southerners to the Pacific Northwest and settled in Chelan County, Washington. Initially members of the family worked for other farmers but were soon able to purchase an apple orchard of their own in Entiat, Washington. Floyd, a four-year letterman in baseball, attended Entiat High School and graduated in 1952. Within a couple of years of graduation, Floyd volunteered for the draft and was inducted into the U.S. Army. Following Basic Training, he volunteered for the 11th Airborne Division (the 11th AB Division has since been decommissioned). At Fort Benning, he completed jump school as well as Jumpmaster School. After his service in the Army, Floyd moved back to Washington State where he joined the Seattle Skydiver's Club, completed 113 jumps, and participated in many public events, including the Seafair Festival. Floyd was an avid runner and completed thirty marathons in his life and, while in his sixties, qualified for and ran the Boston marathon three times. In 1958, Floyd married the love of his life, Dorothy McAlpin. During the couple's marriage of over 66 years, they raised six children and have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Floyd worked as a steelworker for over thirty years, and also worked at Campbell's Lodge in Chelan as lead gardener during his retirement. Floyd is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his children Lorene (Scott) Lake, Greg Copeland, Tami (Mark) Widmer, Cindy (Paul) Cooke, Jill (Ryan) Drew, and Jayne Copeland. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00 am, located at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Yesterday

I am saddened by the loss of "Cope". He was a great friend to my late husband (Hap Richmond). Dorothy I enjoyed our visits when we used to meet for lunches, etc. with others of the group of Entiat school friends. Cope was a very special guy & friend - always friendly, supportive & upbeat.
