Robert Gervais Obituary

Robert Joseph Gervais
February 4, 1932 - December 23, 2024
On December 23, Robert (Bob) Gervais passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 92 in his home in Chelan. Bob was born in Syracuse, NY, and spent a lifetime prioritizing service to family, community, and country.
A Korean War vet, Bob retired from the Air Force after 22 years, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and also the role of First Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he met Sylvia, who quickly became the love of his life. They were married for 60 years and raised two children.
After retiring from the Air Force, Bob came to Chelan to manage the health clinic. He helped start the ambulance service in Chelan with Greta Griffiths, served as city councilman and mayor, helped found Keep It Blue Lake Chelan, served as a fire commissioner for seven years, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
Bob has joined his parents; grandparents; brother; son, Troy; grandson, Steven; and beloved wife, Sylvia. He is survived by his daughter, Monique; and his grandchildren: Anthony, Sean, Emily, Marie, Christopher, and Jonathon. His family loved him, and he will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at Campbell's on January 5 at 2 p.m. Monique is collecting stories about Bob from community members. Please send any that you may have to [email protected].

My condolences to Bob´s family. He hired me to work in the X-Ray Dept. at the clinic in 1988. I worked opposite Sylvia for three years. They were both such dynamic full of life people. Bob was a great boss. He was fair, honest and a great person to be around. He was so committed to this community. It was our privilege to have him here for so many years.

My sympathy to the Gervais family. I was hired by Bob to work at the Lake Chelan Clinic, which was a true pleasure for me. I will always be grateful to him.

One of my memorable moments with Bob. The Newspaper Caption "Unlikely Trio" had some truth to it, but on that day 3 former Mayors were in agreement to smile and record a special moment.

I worked with Bob at the clinic. He was a wonderful man and great to work with. I enjoyed visiting with both him and Sylvia and hope they will be together again.

My condolences to Monique & her family.
I met Bob when I was hired to be Dr. Chuck James's RN team partner. The first thing I was told was not to ask for any equipment as Bob would definitely say "no". I was successful in changing that notion! Bob ran a tight ship & knew what he could do to make Lake Chelsn Clinic the best place for care of the community. We took in all patient problems including emergency situations as at the time the hospital wasn't set up to do that.
I was even trusted to "sit" son Troy when he & Sylvia needed to be out of town.
I learned much about administration duties just by working at the clinic & watching how Bob ran things. When Bob retired he still supported Chelan in all possible ways. We were lucky to have a man of vision who never let us down. May his family rever in what he taught them & know he is one with an always watchful eye.

I knew Bob while he attended Chelan Christian Church and from many visits to his home during the last year of his life. He shared many stories of his community involvement in Chelan and his military service.
