Stephen Anderson Obituary

Stephen (Steve) Anderson was born in Bellingham, WA and grew up on a small farm near Ferndale. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 1963 and from Western Washington State College in 1967 majoring in math and physics. He was hired by Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA, where he served for over 37 years. For 30 years he was directly involved with Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, becoming a radiation safety manager. During the last 7 years he served as a special assistant to the Shipyard Commander, primarily involved in community, local, state and federal government relations, as well as relations with other local Navy commands. After retiring Steve and his wife Claudia designed and built their dream home overlooking Wenatchee and the Columbia River. The house included a woodworking shop where he created a king-size bed frame, a desk for the office, many beautiful tables, and other fixtures for their home. In Wenatchee they continued their love of outdoor activities and travel. Local activities included developing and maintaining a great landscape around their home, golfing, hiking, snowshoeing, bicycling and becoming informal wine connoisseurs. Travel included crossing Europe, central Italy, Scotland, Ireland and Central Mexico. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Margaret Anderson. He is survived by his wife Claudia, his daughter Arlene (Kip) Anderson-Knote in St. Louis, his daughter Steffany (Dan) Kachmer in Spain, his sister Ruby Ann Whitehouse in West Seattle, and his brother Ted (Lyn) Anderson in Seabeck WA., along with two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve and Claudia moved to Bremerton in October 2025. No memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.

I worked with Steve at PSNS in Radiological Control office for 20 years. Steve and Claudia were wonderful to me. They honored my late husband and came to his celebration of life. Rest in Peace. Much sympathy to Claudia and all Steve´s family.
