Darlene Craig Obituary

Darlene F. Craig, 75, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025, at her home in Auburn, surrounded by her family. She was born on Feb. 11, 1950, in Passaic, New Jersey. Darlene graduated from St. John Cathedral High School in Paterson, New Jersey. She married the Rev. Robert Craig on Aug. 2, 1996, in Mount Summit, Indiana. Darlene was an administrative assistant at Peoples Federal Savings Bank in Auburn for 13 years, retiring in 2015. She was born and raised Roman Catholic, and in 2000, Darlene and her sister, Sharon Scull, became members of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Auburn, where her husband served as pastor for 10 years, until his "retirement" in 2010. Darlene was an active and lively person who enjoyed shopping, watching Days of Our Lives, listening to Todd Herendeen's music, and spending time with her three beloved Shih Tzus, Paisley Marie, Bentley and Lydia (deceased). Darlene dedicated her life to her family. She was a devoted mother, loving wife and doting grandmother. A dutiful, loyal and committed daughter and sister, who cared for her mother and oldest sister until their passings. At heart, she was a caregiver, caretaker and nurturer. She was also a woman of fashion and style, and cherished moments when she was mistaken as her son's sister or husband's daughter. Darlene was also a bit of a prankster, apparently since her early years, having been nicknamed "Devil-ene" in school. While she never wanted to leave her family on earth, Darlene's soul also yearned to be reunited with her mother and sister, and today we trust there is such a reunion in heaven. Surviving are her husband of 29 years, the Rev. Robert Craig, of Auburn; two sons, William J. (Michelle) Meyer, of Fort Wayne and James R. (Karen) Meyer, of Westfield; three stepchildren, Christian R. (Teresa) Craig, of Smyrna, Delaware, Jana L. (Jake Wilcox) Craig, of Valparaiso and Joshua D. (Denise) Craig, of Coconut Grove, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Davis, Morgan Meyer, Kiera Meyer, John Paul Meyer, Alyson Banks, Naomi Mendoza, Rachael Craig, Gabriel Craig, Jaelyn Craig and Greysyn Craig; great-grandson, Theodore James Davis; sister, Lenore (John) McAllister, of San Clemente, California; her best friend of 48 years, Mary Barnard, of Endicott, New York; and her former husband, William J. Meyer, of Morton Grove, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha (Howard) Davenport; father, Clifford Stein; and a sister, Sharon Scull. Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service. Darlene's husband, the Rev. Dr. Robert Craig will be officiating. Darlene's son, William Meyer will be eulogizing. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn. Visitation also will be from 3-7 p.m., on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., on Friday, at the conclusion of visitation. Memorials may be directed to Parkview Hospice, American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Darlene F.
