Gerald Humphrey Obituary
Gerald O. Humphrey, 89 of Hartford City Indiana, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Gerald was born on June 29, 1936, in Montpelier, Indiana, to the late Frederick O. and Leah Christine (Bergdoll) Humphrey. He grew up on the Bullskin Farm in Blackford County and served his country in the United States Navy. During his four years with the Navy, he served in the Anti-Sub Squadron 39, served on 3 aircraft carriers as the aircraft engine mechanic. Those 3 carriers were Tarawa, the Leyte, and the Antietam. He traveled to the Mediterranean Sea 2 times and was also in the Caribbean. He visited Australia, Hawaii, Quebec Canada, Island of Malta, the Virgin Islands, Kingston Jamaica, Lisbon Portugal, Barcelona Spain, Athens Greece, the rock of Gibraltar, London England, Germany, Glasco, Scotland, Plymouth England, San Juan Puerto Rico, Lake of the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, and Gitmo Bay Cuba.
Gerald retired as a maintenance mechanic working for Rock Ten Corp in Eaton, Indiana. He spent most of his time in Charleroi, PA. Gerald was a member of Amvets – American Legion. He enjoyed genealogy, motorbikes, rebuilding scooters, and fishing. He was a skilled mechanic.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Otis Roger Humphrey, Frederick E. Humphrey, and Timothy G. Humphrey.
Loving survivors include his children, Deborah Kefover of Hartford City, IN, and Christopher Humphrey of Tennessee, grandson, Tanner S. Kefover of Monessen, PA, and sister, Joretta Rains of Hartford City, IN, nieces, Gerilyn Ervin, Tammy Kinsey, and Sandra Williams, and nephews, Jack Rains, John Rains, Richie Collins, and Roger Lee Humphrey, and many great nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home located at 109 W Windsor St. Montpelier, IN 47359, from 11am to 2pm. A funeral service will begin at 2pm Tuesday with Pastor Steve Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier, Indiana, where military graveside rites will be performed.
