Jerry Working Obituary

Jerry Ronald Working, 90, of Churubusco, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23, 1935, in Fort Wayne, to the late Leo and Susie (Vernon) Working. On December 26, 1955, Jerry married the love of his life, Carol Nichols, and together they built a life filled with faith, family, and love. After graduating from Elmhurst High School, Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He later worked for the Railroad and International Harvester before establishing his own business, Working Electric. Jerry was a member of the Masons, where he served on the Foot Patrol, and he gave of his time as a member of the Blue Lake Conservancy District Board. He was also an active member of Monson United Methodist Chapel. Jerry loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting mushrooms, and playing euchre. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Indiana University basketball and football. Some of his fondest memories were the times he spent visiting with his brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Carol; four children, Brenda (Bob) Tenney, Sonia Brincefield, Donna Shelmadine, and Ron (Jacqueline) Working; 11 grandchildren, Joseph, Daniel, Bethany, Samuel, Ashley, Jessica, Haley, Nakaia, Alexa, McKenzie, and Caitlyn; 11 great-grandchildren, Leicia, Edison, Meira, Luther, Jaelynn, Olivia, Destiny, Sierra, Salem, Remy, Ryker, and soon-to-arrive Titus; and one brother, Russell Working. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard, Raymond, and Frank. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens.
