Mary Wimsatt Obituary

Mary Cecilia Wimsatt, 72 of Fort Wayne passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born July 18, 1952, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Harold E. and Joann E. (Welch) Tompkins. She married Leo Wimsatt whom preceded her in death. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who displayed her pride in her family every opportunity she had. Family was everything to Mary and she dove deep into her ancestral heritage to see how far back she could trace family lineage, finding and communicating with family members that had never known they were related to each other, making connections across the nation and around the world. Mary spent as much time as she could with family as that was her primary passion. Mary was a fun loving, eccentric lady in many ways with a great sense of humor, sharing it with everyone she came in contact with. Making people smile and laugh seemed to be her goal when she interacted with anyone. She enjoyed crafting and being a maker of things and we mean anything. If she thought she could crochet it, knit it, woodwork it, fabricate it, sew it, find and alternative process to it, and so on, she would take on the challenge and find a way or make a way. She firmly believed in the motto of "Why Buy It If I can Make It". She also loved her pets and had a wide arrange of them over her life and could not turn away a stray if it showed up at her door. Our mother was dearly loved and will be dearly missed. The void she leaves will be nearly impossible to fill but fill it with good memories of family is what she would ask us to do. Mary is survived by her children, Ryan (Kim) Bridgewater, Stacey Dickerson, Chris (Amy) Bridgewater and Jeremiah Bridgewater, 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; five siblings, Mike (Betty) Tompkins, Deb (Herb) Armstrong, Cindy (Glen) Huskey, Marilyn Hiott and Tim (Sonja) Tompkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold E. and Joann E. (Welch) Tompkins, husband, Leo and a granddaughter, Fayth. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date.
