D. Alderfer Obituary
Donald Cameron Alderfer, Jr. was born to Donald Cameron Alderfer, Sr. and to Mary Jane Tague Alderfer on June 22, 1949 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Mr. Alderfer was baptized, confirmed, and received Holy Communion as a member of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Alderfer graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Whitemarsh, PA as a College Preparatory student. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA; a Masters of Arts degree from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA; and pursued post-graduate study at Rider University, Princeton, NJ.
In 1973, Mr. Alderfer accepted a short-term teaching position that transformed into a thirty-three year long career. During his tenure at the Warren Hills Regional School District in Washington, NJ, Mr. Alderfer served as a teacher of Advanced Placement Spanish Language, and was appointed both the Regional Supervisor for the Department of Modern Foreign Languages/ESL, and as the Regional Supervisor for the Department of the Fine and Performing Arts. Mr. Alderfer served as the Faculty Advisor to the National Honor Society for several years and as a representative of the Cultural Heritage Alliance (CHA) taking students on various tours throughout Europe from 1986 through 1991.
In 1986, Mr. Alderfer joined the adjunct faculty of the newly forming Warren County Community College as a teaching representative of the Seton Hall University Outreach Program. Mr. Alderfer was tasked with establishing college level Foreign Language programs, instituting a Dual Enrollment program for high school seniors, and recommending transferring students to various university programs. In June of 2009, Mr. Alderfer was appointed Senior Adjunct Professor and remained on the teaching staff until full retirement in 2019.
Professor Alderfer was a perpetual student. In retirement, he could be found reading books, playing music, or involved in research. His interest in Language was instilled early as an altar boy learning Latin to serve the Tridentine Mass. That interest transformed into a career focused on Language Acquisition and Methodology on both the secondary school level and at the college level.
From 1978 to 2002, Mr. Alderfer performed as a professional musician and music remained a daily part of his life, along with a particular interest in the Organology of the classical guitar. Mr. Alderfer read extensively about Proto Archaeology and became fluent in the Culture and Civilization of Sumer circa 6000 BC. Mr. Alderfer also continued to be a student of Traditional Catholicism and was an advocate for and a contributor to the International Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) for decades.
His six younger siblings and a large extended family survive Mr. Alderfer. Although married and divorced, Mr. Alderfer did not have any children of his own. Services and a Memorial were held at the Morello Funeral Home in Easton, PA.
