Daniel Lapp Obituary

Daniel Wilbur Lapp , 86, of Lansdale, died Monday, August 11, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley (Yoder) Lapp, who died August 2, 2021. Born October 10, 1938 in Lansdale, he was the son of the late John and Edith (Nyce) Lapp. Dan was often known as the fourth of nine children. Dan was in the first graduating class at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School (now known as Dock Mennonite Academy) in 1956. After high school, Dan started working for H. W. Longacre and continued there for 42 years. It was interrupted by two years of Voluntary Service in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a Conscientious Objector working in a hospital. It was at this time he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Yoder. They were married in 1963 and returned to Lansdale. He resumed his work for the Longacre family in many different parts of the operation ending his career as the Plant Manager. After his career at Longacres, Dan worked at the Landis Markets. He also volunteered with various charities and nonprofit organizations before being employed as the Director of Development for the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville. He was best known for his starting of the "Whack & Roll" Croquet Tournament, a fund raising event for the Mennonite Heritage Center. He continued to play regularly and assist at the tournament. Dan enjoyed biking, playing croquet, puzzling, reading, gardening as hobbies. He also volunteered at the Care and Share Shops at Souderton and mowed lawn for Dock Academy which for him was more recreation enjoying their John Deere 0 radius mowers. Dan was a lifelong member at Plains Mennonite Church where he and Shirley were involved in many parts of the life of the congregation. They served over 15 years as Deacon Couple. Survivors include his children, Derwood D. Lapp (Cindy) of Hesston, KS, and Julia R. Lapp Harris (Douglas) of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one more on the way; two brothers, James Lapp (Miriam Book) of Ephrata, PA, and Joseph Lapp (Hanna) of Harrisonburg, VA; and three sisters, Sara Kolb (Noah) of Lansdale, Ruth Guengerich (Ron) of Goshen, IN, and Rhoda Lapp of Stone Mountain, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel J. Lapp and John Lapp; and a sister, Mary Swartley; sister-in-law, Nancy Swartzentruber Lapp and a brother-in-law. Willard Swartley. Relatives and friends may call between 12:30 and 1:45 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Plains Mennonite Church, 50 W. Orvilla Road, Hatfield, PA 19440 followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private in the adjacent church cemetery. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
