Donald Crouthamel Obituary

Donald H. Crouthamel, son of Harry D. and Arlene Bender Crouthamel, died peacefully on March 31, 2024 at age 82 in Hospice care in The Woodlands, Texas. Don was a native of Bethlehem, Pa and spent his youth in the Lehigh Valley, graduating from Allentown Central Catholic in 1959. He then went on to study business administration at Villanova University where he graduated with a B.S. He spent the majority of his career working for Groth Corporation which serviced the gas and oil industry among others and was based in Houston, Texas. He loved his working life and enjoyed traveling the world from Europe to the Middle East, to New Zealand and Singapore to develop clients and solve problems in his area of expertise. In his later years he joined his wife, Liz, working side by side for C & C Global inc. Don was always an avid sports fan. He played rugby in college and enjoyed a game of golf or cricket throughout his life. He followed his favorite teams, Manchester United in the UK, Villanova basketball and all of the Houston, Texas sports teams. He loved to read mystery books, especially Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano escapades. When he wasn't watching sports, reading books or whistling along to his favorite music, spending time talking with his family or friends was his favorite pastime. He led a full and fulfilling life. Don is survived by his wife of 25 years, Liz Chiu; his children Erika Richie and her husband Aaron of Missouri City, Tx., Sarah Jones and her husband Courtney of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Alex Zappas, Aaron Zappas and his wife Tammy of Texas. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Landon Richie, Charlie Richie, Jarius Richie, Oscar Jones, Aaron Jr Zappas, Ashley Zappas and Jodi Zappas. Three siblings also survive him: David Crouthamel and his wife Hannah, of Wells, Maine; Susan Evans of Bangor, Pa. and Nancy Crouthamel of Oakmont, Pa. also mourn his passing. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Stephen Evans. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on March 29, 2025 at 12 noon in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem, followed by burial in Holy Saviour Cemetery.
