To the Ryan family, my condolences. You are in my prayers. Doc was a great man. He was always a friendly face at NP. I benefited from his encouragement and kindness during my high school years. Years later, my son and daughter got to experience Doc´s friendly personality also. One of a kind. Thank you Doc.

I had the distinct honor of getting to know Doc as a parent of two North Penn athletes and as a school board member. I an quite confident he knew the name of every athlete in every sport that played for North Penn during his tenure. He truly got to know each of them and was a fixture in the school and at the games. I also had a chance to see how he was respected around the Bux-Mont League and throughout the Suburban 1. Everyone spoke highly of him, his professionalism and the true concern he had for student athletes. I happened to run into him a few short weeks ago while out at lunch and as always he asked me "how is the Admiral and Chris doing"? He always referred to my older son that attended the U.S. Naval Academy as "the admiral". Doc helped both boys navigate the college recruitment process, making sure all the forms and physicals required by the NCAA were completed and sent in on time. For that we are truly grateful. I know Doc will be watching North Penn sports from above and cheering on another generation of athletes. R.I. P Doc! The McKelvy famiy will never forget you.

Although I was not involved in high school sports, I have fond memories of him. He cared not only about his athletes, but also the rest of the high school students as well. Doc Ryan even knew my name and made sure to say hi everytime he saw me. Doc--you will be missed by all.

Doc was one of the first people to welcome me as the "new" Cindy Louden or Theatre Teacher and Director/Producer of NPHS Theatre. He was as supportive of the "other side of the building" where the arts resided as he was of his beloved athletic program. When we still had a faculty dining room, I would sometimes have lunch with Doc and many of his young coaches. His mentorship, their mutual respect, and his humor were never forced, but his authentic way of treating all with respect and dignity. We learned from each other that we faced many of the same issues and joys as we worked with students, even if our activities were different. The students and how to support them to become the best people they could be was always the focus for Doc. Seeing him return to NPHS after retirement always brightened the day for all. Doc will be missed by so many. May his legacy of decency, sportsmanship, integrity, and strength with gentleness and dignity continue as long as NPSD. Doc, you will live always in the hearts of those who learned from you, love you, and shall miss you. Rest in the peace you deserve.
