Dorothy Smith Obituary

Dorothy K. (Landis) Smith, 93, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Hilltown Twp., PA & Harleysville, PA went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Souderton Mennonite Homes. Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Harley K. Smith for 69 years. She was born in Harleysville, PA to the late Samuel Clemmer Landis and the late Esther (Kratz) Landis. Dorothy worked as a commission merchant with her father and husband in the Philadelphia area. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dorothy was a member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and children's superintendent. She was also involved in the children's Christmas program, the new mothers support group, and the ladies sewing circle. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, going to the shore in Ocean City, NJ, visiting the flower show in Philadelphia, wintering in Florida, playing the organ, and dining out with friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball, especially pitching. Dorothy was a hardworking, meticulous, organized woman who was supportive of her husband's community and church involvement. She is survived by her son, Kenneth L. Smith & wife, Patricia of Bridgewater, VA; her daughter, Sylvia Miller & husband, Virgil of Rockingham, VA; her five grandchildren – Christina (Nevin), Laura (Philip), Cathy (Jake), Kara (Matthew), & Brenda; her nine great-grandchildren – Caia, Grace, Lucas, Solomon, Abe, Ada, Louisa, Kate, & Raven; her sister, Marie Frederick of Souderton, PA; and her brother, Walton K. Landis of Bradenton, FL. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Landis. A Celebration of Life service for Dorothy and her late husband Harley will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, PA 18911. A private burial will take place at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Cemetery.
