Jacqueline Brown-Murray Obituary

Jacqueline D. Brown-Murray, known to many as Jacque and fondly called "Jacksprat" by those closest to her, passed away on August 2, 2025, in Poughkeepsie, New York, at the age of 61. She was born on January 26, 1964, in Ashton, Jamaica, to the late Hermine and Hezekiah Brown. Jacque received her early education at Dundee All Age and Mannings High School before continuing on to the College of Arts, Science & Technology (now UTech), where she earned an Associate's Degree in Legal Secretarial Studies. Following graduation, she began her career as a paralegal with Erroll Hall, Attorney-at-Law, focusing on probate, administration, and real estate law. In 1999, Jacque immigrated to the United States with her young daughter, embracing a new life with courage and determination. Though she left behind her homeland, she carried with her its values, traditions, and enduring love. She later enrolled at Passaic County Community College, graduating with High Honors in 2011 with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration Management. She was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was twice nominated for Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. In 2012, she earned the distinction of ranking Number 1 on the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Senior Clerk Exam. In 2010, Jacque joined the clerk's office for the City of Paterson in New Jersey as an administrative assistant. Through her strong work ethic and professionalism, she advanced to the position of Deputy Clerk, and ultimately served as Acting Municipal Clerk-a role she held with dedication until the time of her passing. She resided in Paterson, New Jersey, and frequently visited East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where the surrounding mountains and landscapes reminded her of the beauty of Jamaica. Jacque is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Erwin Murray, and her devoted daughter, Shaunté Allen. She is also mourned by her siblings: Hazel Brown, Herman Brown, Millet Fenley, Dr. Claire Lewis, Agrey Brown, Patrick Brown, and Zitroy Brown; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Errol Brown and Norman Brown. She was a woman of strong faith and a committed member of Mountain Stream Baptist Church in East Stroudsburg, where she found joy in worship and fellowship. She also served as secretary for the Caribbean Empowerment Program of New Jersey. Jacque will be remembered for her intelligence, grace, and kindness. She approached life's challenges with calm resilience and gave generously of her time and care to those around her. Her wisdom, compassion, and deep devotion to her family, faith, and community leave a lasting impact. One of her favorite scriptures, Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" - was not only a life verse but a reflection of how she lived each day. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Mountain Stream Baptist Church, 305 Darthmouth Drive, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302. Burial will follow at (Stroudsburg Cemetery or Sand Hill Cemetery). Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to the time of service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph J.
