James Hammerschmidt Obituary

James E. Hammerschmidt, 79, of Souderton, PA, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. He was the loving husband of Anne (Simmons) Hammerschmidt for 55 years. Born August 27, 1945, he was a son of the late Les and Marian (Moyer) Hammerschmidt. Landscaping was more than just a hobby for James-it was a lifelong passion. His sharp eye for detail was evident in every project, and the beauty he created brought him great satisfaction. Known for his lighthearted, sometimes silly sense of humor, James had a way of making those around him laugh. He cherished time with his grandchildren, always eager to spoil them. His love for animals was unmistakable, and he found great joy in the companionship of both his beloved pets and his grand fur babies. James also had a deep appreciation for music and took great pleasure in listening to his favorite tunes that shaped his childhood and accompanied him through the years. James was employed by Merck & Co., Inc. for 40 years where he worked in the warehouse until his retirement in 2006. In addition to his wife, James is survived by his two daughters, Karen Hoffman, and husband Lee, and Diana Ravenna, and husband Brian; his grandchildren, Gabriella and Nathan; his brother, Gerald; and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Robert. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to the Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike PO Box 222, Conshohocken, PA 19428. Arrangements are entrusted to Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
