Jane E. (Powlus) Smethers, 100, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 22, 1925, in Almedia, PA, Jane lived a full century marked by love, laughter, and deep devotion to those around her. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Myrtle Powlus and grew up in a lively home that helped shape her generous spirit and strong sense of family. Jane was a beloved sister to James Powlus and his wife Ginger of Almedia, and was predeceased by her siblings Althea Hock, Lorraine Owens, Pete Powlus, Vernon Powlus, and Jack Powlus. Jane's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother to Larry Smethers of Bethlehem and Lorraine Cicero of Bethlehem. Her children will always remember her as the heart of their home, offering kindness, guidance, and unconditional love. She spent many years working at George's IGA Bakery, where she took pride in serving the community. But it was in her own kitchen where her true talents came to life. Her homemade sticky buns, made with love and care for her family, became the stuff of family legend. Her baking was more than food; it was a way of bringing people together. Her grandchildren, Bryon Smethers and his wife Jennifer, and Lisa Young and her husband John, were lucky to grow up surrounded by her steady love and care. Her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Megan, and Andrew, will always carry with them memories of her stories, her hugs, and the unforgettable taste of her homemade treats. Jane's life was built on simple joys: a well-cooked meal, a full house, and caring for the people she loved. Her hands were always busy, whether she was baking something special or offering quiet comfort when it was needed most. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and her warmth reached far beyond her own family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and everyday kindness that will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
