Jeraldine Fay Bry-Nildsen (nee Specht), 82, passed away on December 28th at Heritage of Green Hills. She was formerly of West Lawn and was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Bry-Nildsen in 2011 and her identical twin sister Maxine in 2020.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children Anthony Cianci (Donna) of Vero Beach FL; Terri Cianci of Lititz PA; Joe Cianci of Myrtle Beach SC; and Scott Cianci (Amy) of Huntersville, NC. "Grammy" will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Carly (David), Nick, Lauren, Chase, Grace and Sierra.
A 1960 graduate of Reading High School, Gerry had a very outgoing personality and the "gift of gab" her entire life. She was a charter member of the Whitfield Jr. Woman's club and won multiple sewing competitions in the '60s and '70s. She had a love of travel and in 1984 along with her husband opened Travel Agents International in Sinking Spring. After selling the business in 1996 she spent over a decade working as an agent for Singer Travel. While running her own business she was nominated for the "Small Business Woman of the Year" and "YMCA Trendsetter" awards in Berks County.
She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan of all four teams, almost never missing a game on TV. However, her real sports passion was for NASCAR racing, a love of which she shared with her sister and youngest son, Scott. They attended many races and at the age of 60 drove a Richard Petty car for ten high speed laps around the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Gerry was also an accomplished singer and guitar player, having co-founded the folk-rock group, The Sundowners, in the late 1970s. Her love of music and her talent were passed on to her grandson Nick who is a touring professional musician.
Having never been a smoker, in 2008 she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Through expert care in immunotherapy at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania she beat cancer, only to be diagnosed in late 2019 with Alzheimer's disease.
The family would like to recognize the med tech staff at Heritage and the hospice nurses at Bayada for their compassionate care and attention to our mother. We love you all.
