John F. Hurst, of Center Valley, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at the age of 89. He was the husband of the late Gail (Simon) Hurst. They shared 61 beautiful years, until her passing on April, 17, 2022. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, he was the son of the late William Hurst and Mildred (Greenwood) Nelson. John's journey through life was marked by his dedication to family, his passion for engineering, and a myriad of hobbies that reflected his creative and curious spirit.
John's early years were spent in Atlantic City, where he graduated from Atlantic City High School. His academic prowess led him to Drexel University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. It was this foundation that paved the way for a distinguished career spanning over four decades. John worked as an electrical engineer for different companies, dedicating many years of service to Dupont before his retirement. His extraordinary mind did not only contribute to the companies he worked for; John also designed and built a system with the aim of predicting future earthquakes, showcasing his innovative thinking and commitment to making a difference.
Throughout his life, John's ingenuity was not confined to his professional work. He had a passion for engineering and took great pleasure in designing things from scratch. His talents were instrumental in developing a part for a guided missile for the US Navy and in assisting with the design of robotics. John's ability to fix anything was well known, and he often used his skills to the benefit of those around him.
In addition to his professional achievements, John was a member of the Jaycees, where he enjoyed connecting with his community and giving back through service. His leisure time was filled with activities that spoke to his love for the outdoors and his hands-on approach to life. John was an avid golfer, enjoyed fly fishing and tying his own flies, and took pleasure in building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He also relished the opportunity to go camping with his wife and daughters and travel, exploring new places and creating lasting memories together.
Survivors: He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Pamela Hurst Hill and her husband Gary of Royersford, and Christine Hurst Perrucci and her husband Michael of Bethlehem. He was also a cherished grand pop to John "Jack" Perrucci and Alexandra Perrucci, sharing with them his love for life and his wealth of knowledge.
Services: A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Sunday March 16, 2025 at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St. Bethlehem, PA 18018, where a viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
