John McCabe Obituary

John J. McCabe Sr., 77, of Royersford, PA, beloved husband of Patricia A. (Melle) McCabe, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Born on April 20, 1948, in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late Hugh and Marie (Burns) McCabe. A 1966 graduate of Bishop Kenrick High School, John began his career as an electrician at the age of 18, working alongside his father and brother at Hugh J. McCabe Electrical. He later joined IBEW Local 380, which eventually became Local 98 North, where he was a proud member for over 50 years. In 1973, John and Pat settled in Mingo Village, Royersford, where they raised their family and became part of a close-knit community. John was a devoted Catholic and a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Royersford, where he enjoyed attending events such as Night at the Races and other parish gatherings with neighborhood friends. He retired in 2003, and soon after, he and Pat spent 12 wonderful years in Cape Canaveral, Florida. There, he enjoyed days on the beach, but most enjoyed sitting on the balcony with his binoculars watching ships and submarines go in and out of port. He also looked forward to sitting on the beach with a beer for rocket launches. John loved to travel, meticulously planning road trips across the United States as well as trips abroad, always ensuring every detail-from the itinerary to the meals-was thoughtfully arranged. A lifelong Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, he found great joy in sports, but nothing compared to the joy he found in his family. He deeply valued time spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings. He loved cooking family meals especially around the holidays; having Christmas cookie baking parties with his siblings was a cherished tradition. People were drawn to John's blue eyes and dimples which had Lorraine, Eenie and Francesca lined up to be John's next wife. He would affectionately refer to them as his mistresses, which allowed for many laughs over the years. In addition to his wife, Patricia, John is survived by his children: Christina (Robert McLaughlin), Tara (Robert Clark), Melanie McCabe, and John McCabe Jr.; grandchildren: Evan, Collin, Erik, Dallas, Troy, Alexa, Corbin (Amanda), and Ian (Maranda); and seven great-grandchildren: Vienna, Aiden, Orion, Atlas, Aurora, Christopher, and Douglas. He is also survived by his sisters: Dolores Stoops, Noreen Sonetto, and Eleanor McCafferty; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson Joshua McCabe, and siblings Mary Holmes, Kathleen Waters, Hugh McCabe, and Rosalie McDevitt. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, located at Lewis Road and Walnut Street, Royersford, PA, officiated by Rev. Tadeusz Gorka. Interment will be at Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Prevention Point at https://ppponline.org/donate.
