Lorraine Smith Obituary

Lorraine D. Smith, 96, of Stroud Township, passed away early Friday morning, August 8, 2025, while under hospice care in her sister's home in Cresco. She was the widow of David W. Smith with whom she shared 51 years of marriage at the time of his death on May 14, 2014. Born on March 26, 1929 at the family home in Cresco, she was a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Elizabeth Frances (VanWhy) Harrison. She was a lifetime resident of Monroe County and she and her late husband resided in Stroudsburg for many years. During the COVID pandemic she moved in with her sister and brother-in-law, May and Bob LaBar where she resided until her passing. Lorraine was a 1947 graduate of Barrett Township High School where she was a cheerleader. In earlier years she worked at local factories in Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg and then was the housekeeping supervisor at East Stroudsburg University for many years from where she retired. She was a member of the former Grace Lutheran Church in East Stroudsburg. Lorraine was an avid bowler having played on many leagues and winning her best score of 299 in tournament. She also enjoyed playing tennis and baseball, and she loved to dance. Surviving are a son, David A. Smith of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Justin, Cody, Ryan, William, April, Tiffany and Heather; two sisters, Mabel "May" LaBar (wife of the late Robert) and Josephine Fish (wife of the late Ralph) both of Cresco; her close friends, Maryann and Harley Fish, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Davis; and five siblings, Nina Musselman, Jane Weiskopf, Shirley Brink, Charles Harrison and Richard Harrison. Services will be held on Friday, August 15th, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg with viewing beginning at 10:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am with Rev. Monica Guepet officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be make to St. Luke's Hospice of which the family extends a special thanks to Cettina, Shikina and staff for their wonderful care of Lorraine over the past few months.
