Obituary of Mary E. Brisbin
Mary Elizabeth Brisbin (nee McClenaghan) January 6, 1942 - July 14, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, who left this world surrounded by the love she gave in life. Mary Elizabeth Brisbin, age 83, of Norristown, PA, died on Monday, July 14, 2025 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard K. Brisbin, her two loving daughters, Christine Mary Schuck (Robert) and Lauren Ann Park (Chull), and her three cherished grandchildren (Brendan, Katy and YuNha), all of whom were the center of her world.
Mary was born in South Philadelphia where she attended St. Gabriel Catholic School and West Catholic High School. Upon graduation in 1960, she started her professional career at Sun Oil Company.
Throughout her 40+ year career at Sun Oil, she showed unwavering determination and resilience, working her way up from a secretarial position to management level, directing chemical management and logistics along pipelines and between refineries. Upon retirement from Sun Oil, Mary applied her communication & organization skills as office manager at Bryn Mawr Medical Specialists. Her professional journey mirrored the strength of her character-hardworking, humble, loyal, and a steady, lead-by-example approach.
Mary adored watching her daughters do the things they loved and was a proud supporter of youth sports at St. Denis Parish in Havertown. While generally a quiet presence, Mary was a passionate sports fan who wasn't shy about expressing herself on the sidelines –often heard with a spirited "come on" or a "what a joke" especially during her daughters' grade school basketball games. She was a loyal fan of all Philadelphia sports-especially her beloved Phillies. Mary also had a special place in her heart for dogs, a love that began with her family dog, Pal. She never missed an episode of Jeopardy! or Wheel of Fortune and was a loyal CNN viewer. She brought the same dedication to her interests as she did to the people she loved.
Though she spent the final years of her life living with the effects of multiple strokes, her fighting spirit never wavered. She remained strong almost until the very end and still lit up whenever she heard stories of her grandchildren's adventures and accomplishments. Those moments brought her joy and pride and reminded us all of the deep love she carried for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine Marie (Thomsen) and John J. McClenaghan Sr. of Philadelphia, PA, all of her siblings, Catherine M. McLaughlin, John J. McClenaghan Jr., and Charles McClenaghan, her sister-in-law, Rosemarie B. McClenaghan as well as her dearest lifelong friend, Ann Bradley. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with them, watching over us with love and peace in her heart.
Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In honor of Mary Brisbin's life and legacy, donations may be made in her name to the
American Stroke Association () in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life to remember Mary is being planned for later this summer.
