Mary DeBellis Obituary
Mary Ann (Huhn) DeBellis, a cherished Wife, Mother, Gram, and Great-Gram, passed away on May 20, 2025. She passed peacefully with grace and elegance at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 29, 1942, in Allentown, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Alof) Huhn. She was grateful to have found her soulmate early in life. Together with John DeBellis, they shared more than 63 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and faith.
Mary Ann graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School. She and John started their life partnership as young entrepreneurs, acquiring a commercial real estate and apartment building in Fountain Hill. They welcomed three daughters and built a home in Bethlehem Township where they raised their girls.
Mary Ann was a proud homemaker and her girls were the center of her universe. She thrived as an active mother in Girl Scouts, becoming a troop leader and lifelong member. She was proud to have nurtured and mentored countless young girls. She was also involved in the PTA, Bethlehem Township Bulldogs, school band and color guard. Mary Ann was an active member of her community always helping, leading, and serving. She was a lifelong member of the International Association of the Miraculous Medal and Planned Parenthood.
Mary Ann's high school friends were her lifelong friends. Mary Ann enjoyed cooking and entertaining, gardening, sewing and traveling. She meticulously planned every family vacation ensuring that John and the girls experienced points of interest, history and fun. Mary Ann started a career in administrative and technology support earning an associate degree from Northampton Community College. She last worked at Bank of America in Information Technology.
When the girls were grown, Mary Ann and John built their dream home in Bethlehem where they lived for 17 years. In retirement, they left for the sunny skies of Venice, Florida for 17 enjoyable years with old and new friends, family, and time on the Gulf and the Intracoastal on their boat. With John, Mary Ann traveled the world – from the Caribbean to the Fjords, to Beijing and Shanghai, an African safari and more! Her favorite trips were a Rhine River cruise and multiple visits to Germany, where her parents were born, and where she discovered and connected with her roots and family abroad.
She was a devout member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bethlehem. Mary Ann's faith was a source of strength and guidance throughout her life especially in the last 10 years as she bravely, gracefully, and with determination, faced the challenges of her condition.
Mary Ann will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her generous heart, beautiful soul, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her intelligence and wit charmed her caregivers and hospice nurses, aides, social workers and other professionals to whom the family is indebted.
Survivors include her beloved husband, John; her three treasured daughters: Nancy A. DeBellis and her partner Peter Fluck, Carole Pirozzi and her husband Mathew, and Barbara "Nixa" DeBellis; her dear brother, Heinz A. Huhn; her adored four grandchildren: Barbara Marek and her husband Jeffrey, Angela Pirozzi and her partner Francisco Javier Piñeiro Arenales, Daniel Fluck, and Gabrielle Franck and her husband William; and her precious great-grandchildren: Luke Marek, John Porter Marek, Emilia Franck, William Franck, and Paloma Piñeiro Pirozzi. She is also survived by her nieces: Heather Lyon and her husband Robert, and Heidi Eccles and her husband William, and many more nieces and nephews.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Road Bethlehem, PA 18020 where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10 A.M. until time of the service. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery. Mary Ann's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
