Michael Horvath Obituary

Michael Horvath, 89, passed away on September 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 2, 1936, in Heiligenkreuz, Austria, Mike was the cherished son of the late Peter Horvath and Karoline Sárközi. He spent his early years in Austria and Hungary, followed by education at a trade school in Budapest where he mastered shipbuilding and machining. He arrived in the United States in 1956, eventually settling in Bethlehem with his family in 1970, where he built a lasting legacy. Mike worked as a machinist at B&G Manufacturing, retiring in 2001. Beyond work, he was a vibrant presence in the community, coaching the Eagle Hotel under-14 soccer team where his son Michael was a player. He led them to three championships and later guided an under-10 team in the Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League for four years. He was a devoted member of the Bethlehem Soccer Club. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bethlehem, where he served as an usher. At home, Mike shared a deep bond with his life partner of 32 years, Anita Rothrock, creating a bond with her children and their spouses Brett and Holly, Tracey and partner Jeff. He was a beloved "Papa Mike" to Anita's grandchildren Brandon, Alec, Nick, and Maxwell. He is survived by his son Michael Horvath, his wife Susan, and his late son James. He was predeceased by brothers Eugene and John, and sisters Louisa and Francis. Michael was very close with his nieces Carol, A.J., Theresa, Dawn, and nephew Buddy. Mike will be remembered as the impeccably dressed man, always clean-shaven, smelling fabulously, and always smiling. He was the fun guy whose humor and kindness touched everyone, telling stories that could make you laugh out loud or shake your head. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and connecting with others through the Notre Dame 55+ Club and the "more" club. He will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, Mike, until we meet again. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St, Bethlehem, PA. A calling hour will be held on Saturday morning from 10 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. The burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
