Muriel J. Bonnington

Muriel J. Bonnington, age 100, died at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest on March 7, 2025 after a brief illness. Muriel would have turned 101 just two weeks later. Born in North Bergen, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Jennie (née Trimble) McWilliams. She was the wife of George Harold Bonnington, Jr. They were married 49 years at the time of his death in 2007. Muriel graduated in the Class of 1941 of Tenafly High School in New Jersey, and she received a Stenographic Diploma from Drake Secretarial College in 1943. During WWII, she was a Registered Junior Hostess at the Tappan USO Club at Camp Shanks. Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a stenographer for fourteen years in the Chief Engineer's Department at the headquarters of New York Central Railroad Company in Manhattan, and in the Designing Engineer's Office for nine of those years. From 1945 to 1948, Muriel was a member of the Rainbow Figure and Dance Club in Bergenfield, New Jersey, and she later joined the Mineola F & D Club in New York. She attained her Bronze Figures and Dance and her Silver Dance Proficiency Medals from the U.S. Amateur Roller Skating Association. She continued her interest in pattern dance throughout her life. Muriel volunteered at the Parkland Community Library and the Annual Book Sale for many years, and she put untold mileage on her sewing machine. Muriel is survived by her daughter, Laura Bonnington, of Philadelphia and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her brother, M. Allen McWilliams. Family and friends are invited to her Visitation beginning at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Stephens Funeral Home at 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown, PA, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment at Grandview Cemetery, 2735 Walbert Avenue, Allentown, PA, will follow the Service.
