Renee Dougherty Obituary

Renee E. Dougherty, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on January 30, 1928, in the picturesque town of Epinal, France, Renee's life was a tapestry of rich experiences and enduring relationships that stretched across the Atlantic to her final days. Before moving to America, during World War II, she served with the Red Cross in France, dedicating herself to supporting soldiers and civilians in need. Renee was the cherished matriarch of a family that meant the world to her. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Lamar J. Dougherty, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of 57 years until his passing on December 30, 2015. Together, they built a legacy of love and resilience, evident in the lives of their children and descendants. Renee's memory will be forever honored by her son, Lamar F. Dougherty, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lewes, DE, and her late daughter, Michelle O. Leidich, and her husband, Willis. Her spirit lives on through her grandchildren, Kimberlee and her spouse Josue, Travis, and Ash, as well as her great-grandchildren, Maryanna and Adaline, and numerous nieces and nephews, who will carry her lessons and love into the future. Renee was the beloved sister to Françoise Staechelin, Chantal Fresse, and Michelle Faron. She was predeceased by her sisters: Josette Comolli, Jacqueline Mondon, and Thérèse Sertelet; brothers: Pierre Odille and Jean Odille and by her parents, Jeanne Léa Gury & François Odille. Each family member held a special place in her heart, and she nurtured these bonds with the same care and dedication she gave to her cherished plants. Professionally, Renee was known for her exceptional skills as a seamstress, a craft she approached with precision and artistry. Beyond her work, Renee's interests were deeply rooted in her love for plants and, most importantly, her family. Her home was a lush oasis where she tended to her beloved greens with a gentle touch and a knowing smile. Her love for her family was like the sun that nourishes the earth-constant, warm, and life-giving. She instilled in her family the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of nurturing the things we care for. Services: Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Renee's services have been entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

Yesterday

So sorry to read of Renee´s passing. My mom and her were friends for years. They worked together in the factory where Renee taught her to sew. We always got to see each other at school events and band days where she would cheer on her grandchildren. She was a lovely woman. It was a pleasure to have known her. May she rest in peace in the arms of Jesus and her loving family.
