Bob flew his plane up to Alaska to fish with me on the Kenai River back in the early 80's if I remember correctly. He had befriended my sister, Nancy Bender at the hospital where she was nursing. One thing led to another, and after some phone calls and planning, he and two friends, Ben and Steve, arrived at the Soldotna Airport and stayed with Kate and I for a week or so. We all flew over to Iliamna Lake for a fishing/camping trip during the stay. His pilot skills were superb. Being a pilot at the time, I can say that without reservation. Anytime I was back in Johnstown where Kate and I grew up, I always made a point of saying hell-o. As we only get so many people in our lives who leave a footprint, I'm so happy to say, Bob was one of those for me. I've thought of him often over the years. He lived a great life.
