Ruth Baker Obituary

Ruth (Kratz) Baker, 75, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Quakertown, PA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Grand View Hospital. Ruth was the loving wife of the late H. William Baker for 17 years. She was born in Sellersville, PA to the late Elmer L. Kratz and the late Mamie N. (Moyer) Kratz. Ruth graduated from Souderton Area High School, class of 1968. She then graduated from Montgomery County Community College, class of 1971 and 1982. Ruth began working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown, PA. She then worked as a Registered Nurse for Phoebe Richland Health Care Center in Richlandtown, PA, for Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, PA, for Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell, PA, and lastly for Abington Lansdale Hospital (now known as Jefferson Lansdale Hospital) in Lansdale, PA for 24 years, until retiring in 2013. Ruth was a former member of Tabor United Methodist Church in Woxall, PA where she was involved in the woman's ministries. She was a former member of the Quakertown United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women's ministries. Over her years of membership, she was very involved at various leadership levels as their president, a board member, and attended various conventions. She was deeply involved in local mission programs raising funds to assist needy women, children and youth and was in charge of the Visitation Team for her church. She was a current attendee of Indian Creek Church of the Brethren. During her working career, Ruth had a passion for nursing and a deep love and care for her patients. She also loved teaching and being a mentor. She taught a telemetry course dealing with cardiac care, was a charge nurse, and did orientation with the new nurses. Ruth had a joy of traveling. Her travel experiences included: many of the national parks in the United States and Canada via bus tours, Educational Opportunities Organization where she traveled around the world, and participating in different work missions under Discovery Service Project of Doylestown to various Central American countries including the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize. Ruth enjoyed various forms of needlework, watching movies, cooking, and was an avid reader. She was a hardworking, caring, compassionate, generous woman who had a good sense of humor and family was very important to her. She is survived by her three siblings: Elmer "Larry" Kratz & wife, Barbara A. of Telford, PA, Sharon F. Brunner & husband, Wayne E. of Quakertown, PA, and Steven Ray Kratz & wife, Kimberly E. of Quakertown, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, John Philip Kratz. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA 18964, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am. Inurnment will take place at Perkiomenville Mennonite Cemetery.
