Sanford M. "Sandy" Rubin, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on July 29, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on August 12, 1943, in Plainfield, NJ, to the late Irving and Mildred (Arm m) Rubin, Sandy lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and passions.
Sandy's journey through life was one of both constancy and rediscovery. He married the love of his life, Claudette M. (Capp) Bruno, when they were both young and, in his own words, "stupid." Despite going their separate ways after four years of marriage, destiny had a different plan, and 40 years later, they reunited and rekindled their romance, proving that true love can indeed stand the test of time. For the past three years, they've been inseparable, living proof that it's never too late for a second chance at happiness.
He was a devoted father to David E. Rubin and his wife Elaine of Flemington, NJ, Robert A. Rubin and his wife Kim of Hamilton, NJ, and Laurianne Rodriguez of Bridgewater, NJ. Sandy was a proud grandfather to Kenneth J. Rubin, David P. Rubin, and Arianna B. Rodriguez. He also leaves behind his sisters, Eileen Ahmed and her husband Kerry of Mississippi, and Sandra Frusco of Piscataway, NJ, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Helene Clay.
Sandy graduated from Plainfield High School in 1961 and soon after embarked on a distinguished career as an analytic chemist with National Starch and Chemical, where he dedicated 47 years of service until his retirement in 1998. Known for his strong work ethic, Sandy was the embodiment of the creed that one should always be productive and engaged.
A card-carrying member of the NRA, Sandy was an avid hunter who also found joy in competitive trapshooting. His love for sports extended to softball and bowling, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and competition. A dedicated fan, he spent many hours cheering for his favorite teams, the New York Mets and the New York Giants, celebrating their victories and weathering their defeats with equal fervor.
Those who knew Sandy will remember him as a man with a quick wit and a ready smile, always the first to crack a joke and lighten the mood. His sense of humor was a gift that he freely shared, bringing laughter and joy to those around him.
