Alice Inez Moore passed away suddenly on the evening of June 19, surrounded by family. A thoughtful, generous, and enthusiastic soul, Alice was born in Rutherfordton, NC to Weldon and Inez (Hastings) Moore. She was an adoring little sister to her brother, David, who lovingly remembers Alice trailing after him, always wanting to be a part of the older kids' fun. She graduated from East Rutherford High School, completed the RN program at Baptist Hospital in Winston -Salem, NC, and obtained BS and MA degrees after moving to CT. Alice retained her love of learning throughout her life and valued the opportunity to help teach others as well.
Alice channeled her care and compassion into a career in the healthcare industry. She worked for over 20 years as an ICU nurse and nursing manager at Hartford Hospital. In 1993, Alice began training in Reiki and Energy Medicine. She achieved the role of Reiki Master Teacher in 1997 and went on to help develop the Reiki Volunteer Program and Integrative Medicine Department at Hartford Hospital. Her passion for offering comfort to patients motivated her to find a way to bring her beloved Reiki into the hospital setting, in a simpler way that could be more easily understood and accepted by medical staff, patients, students and the community. Following her career in the hospital setting, Alice transitioned into work as a home health nurse.
Although she found fulfillment and pride in her work, it was outside of work – more specifically being in nature – where Alice found true peace. There was perhaps nowhere she'd rather be than on the beach enjoying a sunset. However, Alice did not limit her travels to the local beaches; she was an intrepid traveler who explored many different countries. Alice also loved family holidays and vacations. She valued her independence while maintaining a strong connection to those she loved.
Alice was also an avid artist. Watercolors were her preferred method of expression, though she was also a prolific poet and writer. In addition to her own artistic skills, she also enjoyed experiencing art, whether it was attending an art exhibition or a concert. Alice was an active and supportive member of CT's jazz community, referred to by some of the bands as "our number one fan". Alice also loved reading and playing games, and was a part of neighborhood book, bunko and mahjong clubs.
Alice is survived by her beloved and dedicated partner of 22 years, Bill Shea of Manchester, CT, her brother David Moore of Lewisville, NC, her niece Kathryn Moore of Mooresville, NC, her niece Laura Sullivan of Nashville, TN, her nephew Jonathan Moore of Midland, MI, as well as many extended family members and valued friends.
Friends and family members are invited to join at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W Center St., Manchester, CT 06040 on Friday, June 27th from 2-3:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 3:30. In leu of flowers, charitable donations in Alice's memory may be given to
