Andrea Torres Obituary

Andrea J. (Constantikes) Torres, 66, of South Windsor, beloved wife of 35 years to Miguel A. Torres, passed away suddenly following a brief battle with cancer on Saturday, July 26, 2025. She was born on June 7, 1959, in Norwalk, one of four children to the late George and Joan (Simons) Constantikes. Andrea grew up in Westport, attended local schools, and was a graduate of Staples High School, Class of 1977. A proud alumna of Willams College, she earned her bachelor's degree in English in 1981. She went on to earn her Master of Social Work degree from Smith College. Andrea spent over a decade as a freelance writer before finding her calling as a therapist. She practiced for over fifteen years, eventually opening her own private practice, helping hundreds of people find peace among life's greatest challenges. Andrea enjoyed staying up late talking to people about absolutely everything. A profound lover of language, she was an avid creative writer, composing short stories and poems in her spare time. When she was not working on her own compositions, she enjoyed helping her family and friends to proofread all manner of writing-from essays and grant applications to memoirs and love songs. Andrea loved Shakespeare, Jane Austen films, good lobster, and lamb. Most of all, Andrea enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her husband Miguel, she is survived by her daughter, Alexa Torres of Boston, MA; her son, Miggy Torres of Bloomington, IN; her two sisters, Christina Constantikes Lawrence and her husband Piers of CA, and Amy Claire Constantikes of GA; her brother-in-law, Frank Colella of NY; her niece, Katie; her nephews, George and Forrest, as well as their families. She was predeceased by her sister Patricia Colella of NY. Andrea will be deeply missed by her loved ones for her wit, kindness, generosity, and ardent sense of justice. Funeral services for Andrea will be held at a later date to be announced. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, in South Windsor, are in care of her arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to NPR Public Radio, the American Cancer Society, or the Sarcoma Foundation of America.

I just learned today that Andrea passed away. This came as a shock to me, although I was worried when my texts weren´t answered for the last few weeks. Andrea changed my life and helped me achieve peace and happiness in my life. I only knew her for 6 short years. She was an amazing psychotherapist and I would not be who I am today without her help. She was as nice and kind as she was smart and intuitive. I feel intense sadness at the loss of this wonderful woman. Rest in peace my dear friend and confidant.

Andrea was a valued member of our Puerto Rican Writer´s Group. I feel deeply saddened at her loss and grateful to have known her. Her understanding and compassion will live in each of our meetings and in our hearts. By working with her on writing, she has made me a better person, more willing to communicate peacefully, to listen, to love unconditionally. My condolences to Miguel, Alexa, Miggi, and her sisters.
