Clifton Longman Obituary
Clifton Colbert Longman, 73, of East Hartford, beloved husband for 28 years of Sylvia (Chapman) Longman, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Somerton, St. James, Jamaica, West Indies on February 1, 1952, son of the late Stephen Augustus and Doris (Wilson) Longman, he was raised in Somerton and was a graduate of Somerton All Age School.
After completing primary school, Clifton continued his education at Montego Bay Technical School. Upon graduation, he worked for many years at the TropiGas company in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He also worked for Chin's Car Rental and as a truck driver before migrating to the United States in 1996. Clifton settled in Hartford to be closer to his parents and his siblings.
Clifton had worked at Event Resources in East Hartford as part of the company's event production crew for most of his career while living in the Hartford area. He was well thought of by all his coworkers and he enjoyed his work immensely.
Clifton loved all types of music and was especially fond of reggae and gospel. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars while listening to his favorite bands and artists. Most of all, Clifton enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, dancing, attending family parties and get-togethers, and relaxing at his home.
In addition to his loving wife Sylvia Longman, he leaves to mourn his passing three children, Debbie-Ann Longman of Trelawny, Jamaica, Jason Longman of Bronx, NY, and Samantha Longman of East Hartford; five grandchildren, Sandreen Spencer, Morrecia Harrow, Maria Harrow, and Kelashae Smith all of Trelawny, Jamaica, and Nia Longman of Jamaica; two great-granddaughters, Jovanae Bennett and Rohana Brown; five brothers, Irving Longman of East Hartford, Glaister Longman of East Hartford, Duke Longman and his wife Janice of Greenbelt, MD, Dennis Longman of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and Edwin Longman of St. James, Jamaica; six sisters, Carvel Longman of Windsor, Claudette Sharpe and her husband Rudley of East Hartford, Rosalie Findley of West Hartford, Faith Longman-Knight and her husband Ripton of East Hartford, Sandra Gilling of Windsor, and Valdith Longman of East Hartford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Doris Longman; and a brother, Wesley Fitzroy Longman.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, September 27, 9-10 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 10 a.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
