Daryl Gross Obituary

Daryl C. Gross, 50, of Colchester, passed away on October 3, 2025, in Norwich, with his loving family and cherished friends by his side. Even in the face of a rare and aggressive bladder cancer, he remained strong, steady, and brave.

Daryl was born and raised in Norwich, where he made lifelong memories and friendships. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy and went on to earn a degree in accounting from Eastern Connecticut State University. He built a successful career in this field and was proud to find his professional home at Accounting Resources Inc. in Glastonbury.

On July 22, 2000, Daryl married his best friend and the love of his life, Maggie Bernard. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and amazing friends that are like family. Their greatest joy is raising their son, Reid. Some of Daryl's happiest and proudest memories came from the sidelines, watching Reid compete in baseball, soccer, and wrestling.

Daryl had a big heart and a fun-loving sense of humor. If you were lucky enough to know him, you knew you had a friend for life.

He was a true sports fan who you could count on to know the latest scores and stats. He never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams, the Chicago Bears and the New York Yankees.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Maggie, and their son, Reid, who were the center of his world. He leaves his mother, Joann Gross of Norwich; his brothers, Adam Gross and his wife Jamie of Cape Coral, FL, Kip Gross of Norwich, and Kurt Gross of Bristol. In addition, he is survived by his father-in-law, Myron Bernard Sr. of Greenwood, SC, brother-in-law, Myron Bernard Jr. of Abbeville, SC., along with numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and cherished friends who were like family to him.

Daryl was predeceased by his father, Emil Gross, and his mother-in-law, Karen Bernard.

A time to honor and remember Daryl's life will be held at Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, on Friday, October 10, with calling hours from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. He will be laid to rest, at a later date, in South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Daryl's memory may be made to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN). https://bcan.org/?form=evergreen-donate

My deepest condolences for Daryl's family and loved ones. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to have been Daryl's mentor when he joined ARI. I enjoyed getting to know Daryl and his family in our conversations at work. We often discussed our sons and the sports they played sharing stories of their accomplishments. You could see the pride and happiness when he talked about his family. His positive attitude and sense of humor will be missed dearly.
