Douglas Cahill Obituary
Douglas Rezin Cahill of Glastonbury, Connecticut, passed away on September 10, 2025.
He was born in 1948 in Waterbury, CT, and spent his childhood in Winsted, Connecticut, before the family moved to their home in New Fairfield, Connecticut.
In 1966, he met the love of his life, Linda. They celebrated 57 years of marriage this year. They soon welcomed their daughter Wendy into this world. Wendy was the second love of his life. He truly enjoyed having a child and loved spending time teaching her about the world. He was extremely proud of the woman she has become.
Doug pursued many educational degrees. He had an associates in electrical engineering from Waterbury State Tech, and another associates degree from Norwalk community college. He really found his passion when he went to the University of Bridgeport and obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree in cinematography and photography. Doug was a lifelong learner and enjoyed researching everything that he was interested in.
Doug followed in his father's footsteps and began his career at Northeast Utilities, working his way up the corporate ladder to channel his passion in environmental stewardship by helping to create and head up Northeast Utilities energy efficiency program, ConnSave. Doug and his partners eventually formed their own private energy efficiency company Kemper Management which later became Competitive Resources. He and his lifelong friend Gary also developed a solar and lighting company, TechniArt.
His love of learning and pursuing new experiences led him to put his all into a myriad of creative and inventive pursuits with his like-minded and lifelong friends. He was a photographer, an animator, music historian, a DJ and a festival promoter. He practiced transcendental meditation and yoga on a daily basis. He was involved in WhatEver Music Co. and eventually with his friend Gary, a patent holder of an innovative photo voltaic talking Crystal ball that was purchased and produced by Milton Bradley.
But it was hardly all work and no play. Doug chased fun like it was another job. He filled his calendar with Linda riding his Harley, going to movies, supporting local theater, traveling the world and most of all experienced as much live music as possible. He thoroughly enjoyed playing tennis and cards and just hanging out with his many friends. He was a longtime member of the Rock in Roll Hall of Fame and visited that venue many times. Most recently, he was the lighting director and jack of all trades for Bridge Street Live - a music venue. He loved meeting the bands, the patrons and being a part of the music scene. Doug was a true renaissance man.
Doug was a lover of animals, and his many dogs were his constant companions. Moon Shadow was his sidekick in all of his hiking trips. He found joy in his relationship with Hound, Beauregard, Nikki, Charlie and Tazzy. Our latest puppy Roxy gave him a lot of comfort in his last days.
In all of these pursuits, one of the most important things that stands out was his genuine love of people. When you met Doug, you knew that you were seen and valued. Doug loved helping people, and his legacy is woven into the fabric of many different lives. He gave to many charities and donated gallons of blood. The love he had for life will remain a part of the hearts of everyone he touched. Though we cannot imagine a life without our Doug, the universe is a little brighter with his energy in it.
In addition to his wife, Linda and daughter Wendy, he is survived by his siblings and their spouses Bob and Lu Cahill, Ellen Cahill, James, and Marie Cahill, brother-in-law George Zappone, nieces and nephews Lia, Jeremy and Christy, Ehren, Ryan, Grant, Chloe, Isabelle, Kyle, Dylan, Zachery, Amy, Tiffany, Brittany, Dan, Andrew and so many more chosen family members.
He was predeceased by his dad, Robert, his mother Dorothy, his sister, Susan, his father-in-law George, mother-in-law, Irene and his niece Christine.
