FUNERAL HOME

Eileen Gould Obituary

Eileen O. Gould, 90, of Enfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, surrounded by her children. Born on November 22, 1934, in Rutland, Vermont, to Walter and Alberta Ovitt, Eileen leaves behind a remarkable legacy of kindness, creativity and community service. Eileen's brother, Jack Ovitt, and sisters, June Abel, and Harmony Bolstridge, predeceased her. After graduating from Bellows Free Academy in Chester, VT, in 1952, Eileen moved to Connecticut, where she worked for Travelers Casualty. In October 1956, Eileen married the love of her life, Robert L. Gould, with whom she shared 52 wonderful years until his passing. Together, they raised two children, Frank R. Gould and Marilyn G. Camp, who survive her today. Eileen's talents as an accomplished homemaker were evident in every corner of her home, where her skill in sewing, wallpapering and furniture restoration shone brightly. She had a remarkable green thumb and joyfully maintained extensive flower gardens for many years, passing this love of gardening on to her daughter. She was passionate about community involvement serving as a Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Enfield Women's Club. She also remained an active beloved member of the Enfield Congregational Church community throughout her life singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and participating in Women's Fellowship. After earning an Associate's Degree in Business at Asnuntuck Community College, Eileen dedicated herself for fifteen years to retail work at G. Fox Company (later Macy's, then Filene's) at the Enfield Mall, then up at the Ingleside Mall in Holyoke, Massachusetts. When Eileen retired, she learned the art of porcelain doll making, enjoying making many dolls herself. She also traveled out west to visit family and see the beautiful lands and national parks. Later she travelled north to Canada, then south to Florida. Eileen will be remembered by her children as a very loving mother and very smart woman (she constantly won at family Trivial Pursuit matches). She also was loved by many for her honesty and kindness. She will be sorely missed as a woman who was truly good. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Enfield Food Shelf (EnfieldFoodShelf.org). Her family will receive friends on Friday, May 30, from 11 AM – 1 PM at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Enfield. A Graveside Service will follow at 1:30 PM at Enfield Street Cemetery, Enfield. For online condolences, please visit www.leetestevens.com.
