Emo Hernandez Obituary

Emilio "Emo" Anthony Hernandez, Jr., 77, of Somers, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Robinson) Hernandez, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, April 14, 2025, at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on September 18, 1947, Emo was the son of the late Emilio A. Hernandez, Sr. and Margarita (Toledo) Hernandez. At the age of two, he moved with his family to New York City and was raised in The Bronx. Following high school, Emo proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served honorably in the Vietnam War. After his military service, Emo spent several years traveling the country. During this time, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth, in Pennsylvania. They later married and eventually made their home in Somers, where they built a life over the past 30 years. Emo had a long and dedicated career in the restaurant industry, managing several well-known establishments across the country. His leadership and work ethic left a lasting mark at places like Emerson's Steakhouse, the Hilton in Hartford, Ruby Tuesday's, and The Dakota Steakhouse. Above all, Emo cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His warm smile, strong spirit, and deep love for those around him will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his beloved wife Elizabeth; three children, Christie Oldakowski and her husband Joe of Bolton, Jesse Martello and his wife Holly of Somers, and Daniel Hernandez and his wife Kelly of Broad Brook; and seven grandchildren who brought him immense joy: Katelyn, Jesse, and Lauren Martello, and Julianna, Daniel, Oliver, and Annie Oldakowski. He is also survived by his brother, Luis Hernandez; two sisters, Vivian Valentine and her husband Victor, and Lillian Calisto and her husband Michael; his brother-in-law Dave and his wife Carol; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Willie and Eddie Hernandez as well as his sister in-law Joanna Nelson. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, April 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers, CT. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Somers Center Cemetery, Battle Street, Somers.
